D2L iCollege, Zoom, Padlet, Google Drive (Docs, Slides, Forms), and Menti are used in an integrated way to support the COIL Student Learning Objectives. D2L iCollege (Perimeter College’s LMS) hosts the syllabus, assignment instructions, rubrics, submissions and grades, giving students a single reliable space to track tasks and receive feedback; this directly supports the outcomes on communicating scientific ideas through written explanations and applying basic research skills. Zoom enables the synchronous ice breaker, breakout-room teamwork and regular team meetings, helping students collaborate in international, interdisciplinary teams and reflect on intercultural collaboration in real time. Padlet serves as a low-barrier, visual wall for introductions, posting case summaries and sharing final products, which encourages cross-cultural connection and peer commenting. Google Drive (Docs, Slides, Forms) allows real-time co-authoring of problem briefs, proposals and presentations across institutions, reinforcing collaborative analysis and evidence-based communication, while Google Forms and Menti are used for the pre/post surveys, quick check-ins and interactive polls that underpin the individual reflection outcome. Used together, these tools scaffold international collaboration, digital literacy and reflective learning, enabling students from both institutions to investigate a sustainability problem, communicate findings in multiple formats and reflect on their learning regardless of time zone or location.
Attendance Policy

Attendance follows each institution’s own academic calendar and policies, with shared expectations for the COIL component. Attendance at the synchronous Zoom sessions (the Week 1 ice breaker, the Week 2 intercultural session and scheduled team meetings) is required, as these activities depend on real-time cross-cultural collaboration. Because the two institutions are in different time zones, sessions are scheduled at mutually agreed times and recorded when possible so that a student who must miss a session for a justified reason can review it and complete an equivalent asynchronous task. Students are responsible for notifying both their instructor and their teammates in advance of any absence. Repeated or unexcused absence from synchronous sessions or failure to contribute to asynchronous teamwork may affect the participation and collaboration portions of the grade. Perimeter College students remain subject to GSU–Perimeter College attendance regulations, and UAQ students to the attendance norms of the Facultad de Ingeniería; where the two differ, the more flexible accommodation is applied so that no student is penalized for time-zone or institutional differences beyond their control.
Participation policies and regulations
All students are expected to participate actively and respectfully in both synchronous and asynchronous activities. Each team member must contribute to shared documents, discussions and the final product; one member uploading on behalf of the group is allowed for submission, but every student should author an identifiable part of the work. Communication uses institutional accounts and approved channels (Zoom, iCollege/Google Classroom messages, shared Google Docs, and, where institutional policy permits, agreed team messaging); students should avoid sharing personal data such as private phone numbers or social-media accounts. Posts and comments are kept in English or bilingually (English–Spanish) using inclusive, respectful language. Academic integrity rules of both institutions apply: all sources must be properly cited, AI tools may be used only as permitted and disclosed per the instructors’ guidance, and plagiarism or misrepresentation of a teammate’s contribution is not tolerated. Deadlines are set in advance for each activity; late work is handled according to each instructor’s policy, and teams are encouraged to define internal roles and check-in times to keep everyone informed. Participation quality (timeliness, respectful collaboration and balanced contribution) is reflected in the collaboration criteria of each graded activity.

Padlet is a tool that allows you to store and share multimedia content; it is a digital wall where teachers and students can collaborate by adding images, links, documents, text, videos, audio, among others. We will use Padlet in the Integration activities and in the Final Reflection.
